Surface prep, mixing, and application

STEP 01 — SURFACE PREPARATION

  • If tiling over existing tile, degrease and lightly abrade the glazed surface to improve key.
  • Remove any loose, cracked or hollow-sounding tiles before proceeding.
  • Ensure the substrate is structurally sound and free of dust or laitance.

STEP 02 — MIXING INSTRUCTIONS

  • Add powder to approximately 5–5.5 litres of clean water per 20 kg bag.
  • Mix to a smooth, slump-free paste using a slow-speed drill and paddle.
  • Rest for 5 minutes, then re-mix briefly before application.

STEP 03 — APPLICATION

  • Apply with a notched trowel sized to the tile format; back-butter large or heavy stone tiles.
  • Place and bed tiles firmly within the open time; use spacers to maintain joint width.
  • For exterior or heavy stone work, check full-contact transfer periodically.

FAQ

Common questions

Can I tile directly over old ceramic tile?

Yes, provided the existing tile is sound, fully bonded, and degreased/abraded first. Remove any loose or hollow tiles before starting.

Is Megafix T2 rated for exterior use?

Yes, it's suitable for indoor and outdoor application, including exterior cladding and facades.

Should I back-butter large stone tiles?

Yes — back-buttering heavy or large-format stone improves contact and is recommended for anything over 400 × 400 mm.

How is Megafix T2 different from Neofix T1?

Megafix T2 carries a higher bond-strength classification (C2 vs C1) and is non-slip — better suited to tile-on-tile, stone, and exterior work than the standard-set Neofix T1.
